Film Negative Restoration
Budget: $15 – $25 USD
I'm looking for a skilled image restorer to repair digitized film negatives. The negatives require:
- Scratches removal
- Dust spots cleaning
- Fleck and small digital artifact elimination (remaining after wet-chemical cleaning)
The final images must meet professional quality standards for archival purposes.
Ideal Skills and Experience:
- Proficient in Adobe Photoshop
- Experience in image restoration
- Attention to detail and quality
- Ability to work with archival-grade standards

We have a process of steps to follow to guarantee uniformity and continuity for the clients of our five-star-rated digitizing service. During the steps is where your skills in returning the digitized film negative images to "day of" quality is where your Photoshop skills will shine. Proficiency in simple-but-necessary skills such as Flip, Rotate, fine-tuning Tone and Contrast by manually adjusting the Levels based upon the Histogram image, Crop, Spot Healing tool, Clone Stamp, Color Replacement, and others are necessary.
The goal is to take the initial "raw" scans -- usually 35mm film, wet-chemical-cleaned as prep, and then digitized as 64-bit color at 4800 DPI/PPI, and saved as an uncompressed TIF/TIFF file -- the size of which is approximately 200-300 MB per "raw" file -- then we flip/rotate to the proper orientation, crop away the edges, make the repairs to return the image to "the day of" condition, set the final tonal adjustments, flatten the image, and save it for return to the client as a repaired, single-layer TIF/TIFF.
NO AI is to be used...we are restoring for aesthetic purposes but we stop before using any AI...if it cannot be done manually with Photoshop then it simply does not get done. We are working on what will be the final and only archival versions of these digitized images so there will be no material alteration by AI. There are no exceptions to this standard.
An example of a "before and after" image are included...these are 600 PPI scans of printed examples shown to clients to showcase the repairs that are done...you will of course be working on the 1st-generation digitized negatives' images.
Work can begin almost immediately. You provide your own PC and softwares, obviously, and digital product will be shared via shared online folders. As every image has the capacity to be different in its repair characteristics, this is HOURLY and not per item.
Standard 1099 contractor status applies, as do the standard non-disclosure and confidentiality agreements. Neither I nor the client authorizes sharing or retention of any source work, and all work product belongs to us. Once project materials are verified as having been received by me, you are obligated to permanently delete all copies and versions in your possession.
