Whimsical Children’s History Illustrations
Budget: £250 – £750 GBP
I’m putting the finishing touches on a small history book aimed at curious 6- to 8-year-olds and now need a set of bright, whimsical illustrations to bring each chapter to life.
There are two main characters who tavel through history to different ages.
Every image should feel playful and “happy,” yet still anchor the historical setting in a way young readers can recognise. Some spreads will feature well-known historical figures (think Cleopatra or Leonardo) while others weave in the two fictional child characters who guide the story; both groups must appear consistently styled so the book feels cohesive.
Colour, movement and expressive faces are essential. Simple backgrounds work as long as they hint at time and place—pyramids, old sailing ships, medieval castles, and so on. Clean vector lines or high-resolution raster art are fine; layered files from Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop or Procreate will let my design team adjust layout later.
Deliverables
• Full-colour, print-ready illustrations (exact count to be finalised together)
• Source files with organised layers and flattened CMYK versions for press
• A quick character sheet for each recurring figure so proportions stay consistent across pages
An initial rough sketch for one scene will serve as our style checkpoint; once approved, you can move on to the remaining images in batches. Final artwork must meet standard picture-book bleed and trim specs, which I’ll provide. Timely communication and openness to light, constructive revisions will make this a smooth collaboration.
