Naked Emperor Cover Illustration

I’m commissioning a book cover built around the classic Andersen scene: a naked emperor on horseback, riding left through a crowd of adoring subjects, while a lone child points in astonishment.

Here’s what I need the final artwork to capture:
• A clean, uncluttered cartoon treatment—simple line work and restrained detailing so the eye goes straight to the emperor–child contrast.
• An emotional balance: it should provoke a “wait, this is serious” thought while still carrying the wink of satire that makes the fable memorable.
• A muted, pastel palette; soft tones rather than high-saturation colour so the humour and message carry the weight, not the brightness.

The deliverable is a print-ready front cover illustration (300 DPI, CMYK, with safe-area and bleed respected) plus the editable source file (PSD, AI or layered Procreate file—whatever you create in). If you’d like to rough out a thumbnail first, I’m happy to give quick feedback before you move to final line and colour.

I’ll supply trim size and title text once we’re underway; everything else is in your creative hands as long as the emperor, horse, crowd, and pointing child read clearly at thumbnail size. I look forward to seeing how you distill this timeless story into a single, striking image.
