Project goal
Create a reusable Adobe Illustrator template system that I can populate to build multiple card decks and send to a professional printer with confidence. The system must meet commercial print standards, preserve alignment between fronts and backs, and scale cleanly across different deck sizes.
Primary outcomes
Illustrator templates that I populate with my content, without needing to duplicate artboards or manually manage coordinates
Print ready setup with correct trim, bleed, safe areas, and export settings
A clear, foolproof mapping between each front and its matching back
Deck capacity templates that support common production quantities and reduce setup work for future decks

Safe area guide at 0.125 inches inside trim
Conservative safe area guide at 0.25 inches inside trim
Corner options
Provide two template variants
Square corners
Rounded corners with a clearly labeled radius value that can be changed if a printer requests a different radius
Colour, file mode, and output requirements
Colour mode
CMYK throughout
Resolution and image quality
Any placed raster images must be effectively 300 dpi at final printed size
Do not rely on scaling up low resolution images inside Illustrator
Keep line art as vector where possible to retain sharpness
Type and legibility targets
Templates must support legible type at print, with sensible defaults and guides
Body text should be designed to work at 10 to 12 pt as a baseline
Fine print should not require going below 8.5 pt
Headings should comfortably support 16 to 22 pt
Include a note in the instructions that type size depends on the chosen font, but these ranges are expected to print clearly on this card size
Front and back alignment requirements
This is the most important requirement.
Front and back templates must share identical trim, bleed, and guide positions
All artboards must use the same origin point and coordinate system so placement is consistent across the full deck
Include a Technical layer for alignment and registration cues that do not appear on the finished cards
Back orientation must be correct for professional printing
If mirroring is required for backs, provide a clearly labeled alternate back file version or an alternate export preset, plus a plain English explanation of when to use it
Template structure required
Do not create a workflow that depends on me copying and pasting or duplicating artboards to keep coordinates correct. I want pre built artboards that I populate.

Each artboard must include a small Card ID text element placed inside the safe area, on a dedicated Numbering layer.
The Card ID must match across the corresponding front and back artboards to make pairing foolproof during proofreading and print production.

I can populate Card 017 Front and Card 017 Back, export using your method, and a printer can match and print front to back with correct alignment without me rearranging pages or artboards
Files are clean, clearly labeled, and reusable for future decks

Example content if you want to test the templates with real text and layout
Printer specification sheet if I have one, otherwise use commercial print best practice defaults
Portfolio requirement for applicants
