Fundraiser needed for hospital in Mwandi, Zambia

Job ID: 34629485

Budget: $25 – $50 USD

The American Partners board of Mwandi Hospital (Western Province, Zambia) has supported the infrastructural development of the hospital for over 10 years with almost 15 more years of involvement from various board members. In partnership with local stakeholders, we adopted a ten year "master plan" in 2020 for ambitious and badly needed hospital renovations, additions, and enhancements. In addition to filling urgent care gaps, the purpose of the plan is to build the necessary infrastructural capacity for the hospital to become a "Level 2" status hospital to provide badly needed specialty care and training programs. Specialty focus areas include women's health, especially cancer care which is currently not available outside of Lusaka, opthalmology, dentistry, goiter surgery and endoscopy training, in addition to the hospital's broader mission of providing healthcare and emergency services to the Mwandi District. The pandemic delayed the start of the plan's first project, the construction of a Reproductive Health Center, however we broke ground on the center this summer.

The current estimated cost of the master plan is about $6 million. As a small board composed largely of physicians and academics with little spare time (but long histories of working trips to the hospital), we lack the capacity to raise significant amounts of money. At our current fundraising rate, completion of the plan will take, literally, just under a century. We urgently need a professional fundraiser to develop and implement a sustainable corporate fundraising plan, and the ability to identify and respond to appropriate grant opportunities from organizations that support the improvement of health care infrastructure in Africa.
