50 dBA at 7m Generator Enclosure Design
Budget: $750 – $1,500 USD
I need an acoustic canopy that brings a 14–30 kW genset down to 50 dBA at 7 m so it can run quietly in a residential setting. One design should scale across that full power range; I can adapt mounting points later, but the acoustic geometry, ventilation, and panel construction should remain identical.
Material choice is open—you may work in steel, aluminum, a composite skin, or even a hybrid build—so long as the finished unit reliably meets the target sound pressure level without overheating the engine. Likewise, please specify the most effective internal treatment (foam, fiberglass, mass-loaded vinyl, etc.) rather than locking in a single option now.
I will need:
• 3-D enclosure model with dimensional drawings ready for fabrication
• Acoustic and thermal verbal discussions that demonstrate the 50 dBA @ 7 m goal under full load and 40 °C ambient
• Bill of materials listing sheet thicknesses, liners, isolators, hardware, and recommended suppliers
• Assembly notes showing service-access panels, exhaust routing, and airflow paths
• A brief validation verbal report explaining how the design achieves the stated sound level and engine cooling requirements
The project is considered complete when your documentation is clear enough for a metal-shop to build a first article and the predicted figures meet the 50 dBA target.
