Interim Controller
25–30 hours per week | during normal business hours
We are seeking a highly experienced, hands-on Controller to step into a working leadership role and help stabilize, rebuild, and manage our accounting function during a critical transition period. This individual will not only oversee the accounting team but will actively perform daily and monthly accounting tasks while training and preparing new staff over the next 3–4 months.
This role requires deep full-cycle accounting expertise, strong managerial skills, and the ability to execute work accurately without shortcuts.
Systems & Tools
• QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise (required)
• ADP (payroll & admin setup)
• TCP (TimeClock Plus or similar employee time management system)
• Online banking portals & user access management
Leadership & Systems Setup
• Act as interim Controller and working manager for the accounting team
• Set up and manage administrative credentials in ADP
• Establish employee access and permissions in TCP
• Set up and manage banking portal access for employees
• Train and mentor accounting staff while processes are rebuilt and documented
Hands-On Accounting Duties
• Perform bank and credit card reconciliations accurately and completely
o No forced or artificial journal entries to make accounts balance
• Process payroll by:
o Uploading approved timesheets from the employee time management system into ADP
o Posting payroll journal entries into QuickBooks after processing
• Manage intercompany transactions across multiple entities
o Clear due-to / due-from balances monthly
• Assist with EDD matters, including:
o Responding to inquiries
o Entering payments into QuickBooks
• Review, route, and help resolve correspondence from:
o Health insurance providers
o Government agencies and vendors
Reporting & Compliance
• Run and prepare financial and operational reports
• Assist with regulatory and compliance reporting as needed
• Ensure accounting records are accurate, timely, and audit-ready
Qualifications
• Proven experience as a Controller or senior accounting manager
• Strong full-cycle accounting background
• Extensive experience with QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise
• Payroll processing experience using ADP
• Experience managing intercompany accounting for multiple entities
• Comfortable in a hands-on, high-responsibility role
• Ability to lead, train, and correct processes while performing daily work
Engagement Details
• Approximately 25–35 hours per week (25 hours is the minimum)
• During standard business hours
• Expected engagement: 3–4 months
