Project: Excel Labour Cost Calculator (Salary vs Award Comparison)
I’m looking for an experienced Excel specialist to build a labour cost calculator that compares salary-paid managers vs Fast Food Industry Award outcomes, with future-proofed rate updates.
Background
We use a rostering system where salaried managers are costed at a flat daily rate. We now need to compare their weekly salary against what they would have earned under the Fast Food Industry Award, including:
Public holidays
Start and finish times
Penalty rates
Overtime
Where the award outcome is higher, we top up the difference.
Key requirement (very important)
All award rates, penalties, and multipliers must be editable by me.
The spreadsheet must:
Contain a clearly labelled Rates / Settings tab
Allow future annual award increases to be updated without changing formulas
Avoid hard-coding of dollar values inside formulas
What the spreadsheet needs to do
Input fields for:
Daily start & finish times
Breaks
Day type (weekday / weekend / public holiday)
Manager’s annual salary
Automatically calculate:
Award-based weekly pay
Salary-based weekly pay
Variance (shortfall or overpayment)
Be easy to audit, update, and explain to others
Built in Excel using structured formulas (macros only if genuinely required)
Nice to have
Familiarity with Australian awards (Fast Food Industry Award)
Clean spreadsheet design with locked calculation cells and editable input/rates areas
Deliverables
Fully functional Excel workbook
Separate Inputs, Rates, and Calculations sections
Brief handover notes explaining how to update rates going forward
