I need a writer who can write about critical theory.

Job ID: 32292894

Budget: $30 – $250 USD

The film Paris Is Burning has been critically examined by scholars in terms of its intersecting portrayals of subcultural practices in terms of race, class, gender, sexuality, and cultural imaginaries, producing mixed, ambivalent responses.

As bell hooks writes, “the film’s politics of race, gender, and class are played out in ways that are both progressive and reactionary.” Judith Butler points to drag performance itself as ambivalent, questioning whether the film overall and drag balls in particular can be subversive in their mimicry: “Paris is Burning calls into question whether parodying the dominant norms is enough to displace them; indeed, whether the denaturalization of gender cannot be the very vehicle for a reconsolidation of hegemonic norms.”

Discuss hooks and/or Butler’s readings of the film in producing your own intersectional critique of it.

You are encouraged to include other authors studied under intersectionality (in Weeks 8-13) to support your argument.

You can discuss other theories as it relates to this such as gender theory and feminism, postcolonialism, class/ taste, mainly intersectionality and how it relates to the film.

This is a 3000 word project and need 1000 words done by Sunday morning, the remainder is due by the morning of the 20th.
