Recruitment Post: Remote Gig Workers for Academic Text Interview (Cambridge Sociology Research)
Hi there,
I’m Yuxia Ren, a Master’s student in Sociology at the University of Cambridge, currently conducting research on labour mobility and worker power among remote gig workers. Specifically, how you interact with the platform reputation system (e.g., star ratings, feedback scores), your labour mobility (how you find, switch, or retain gig work platforms based on your reputation), and your perceptions of worker power. This study is for my academic dissertation only (no commercial use), and I’m seeking gig workers to share their honest insights via an asynchronous text interview.
Who I’m Looking For:
Current remote gig workers (active on platforms like Upwork, Freelancer, PeoplePerHour, Fiverr, or similar remote gig platforms) who earn income through these platforms.
A platform reputation rating of 4.5/5 stars or higher (to focus on workers with established experience interacting with reputation systems).
What the Interview Involves:
This is an asynchronous online text interview (No live calls! You answer on your schedule!):
1. I’ll send you 9 core questions via platform message in a document.
2. You can take 2–4 days to respond (no rush) and send the completed document back.
3. I’ll follow up with 1–2 rounds of clarifying questions (again, you reply at your convenience, preferably within 3 working days ).
4. Total time commitment: 50 mins for initial answers + 40 mins for follow-ups (split across your free time).
What You’ll Get:
A guaranteed 5-star rating on your platform profile (regardless of your answers! your honesty is what matters!).
Compensation negotiated based on your working hours and average wage rate, to be agreed with you prior to the commencement of the project.
Privacy & Data Protection:
All your responses will be completely anonymous: I’ll replace your name/platform ID with a code (e.g., Worker 7) in my research.
Data will only be used for this academic study (never shared with third parties).
All interview documents will be stored in encrypted files (only accessible by me and my supervisor) and permanently deleted 1 year after the study ends.
