I have just started my second year at university studying paramedic science in the United Kingdom. Find below details of my first assignment.
“A quick look at your AMP 1 assignment
2 x cases, reflective critical analysis
2000 words (+/- 10%)
Use the Rolfe “what, so what, now what”
The reflections need to relate to part of the patient assessment process
I advise probably looking at one specific aspect
CVS (Bruits, pulsatile aorta, bilat BPs, L&S BPs, HS, JVP, radial-radial delay/radial femoral delay, conjunctival pallor))
RS: Tactile fremitus, vocal fremitus, lung auscultation in general (poorly done, inter-rater reliability) ballotting the kidneys, groin examination, stomas, cremeteric reflex nurphy's sign, peritonitic abdomen, bowel sounds, poorly done in practice. PR exam!”
I will look at neurological and CVS
• Using a case from practice, discuss how the application of evidence based practice improved patient care focussing on two types of assessment: make up two real life scenarios
Additional information:
• You must make it clear what reflective model you are using: I will use Rolfe (what, so what, now what)
• You must focus on two system assessments (Neurological, Abdominal, Cardiac, Respiratory): I will do neurological and CVS
• You must make clear links to how contemporary literature has influenced practice
It can be written as first person writing
What do I need to do to pass? How do I achieve a good grade?
1. Recognised reflective model for healthcare used and shows development of clinical skills
2. Two system assessment discussed and analysed
3. Critically review links between contemporary literature and patient care within paramedic practice
Weighting of assessment: 50%
Size or length of assessment: 2000 words minimum but can be over by 10%
can you please layout a template on how I can layer my assignment out with also suggestions.
To get a higher grade you have to argue with two points of view.
What needs to be referenced:
1.Where did you develop that knowledge?
2.Where is the evidence for that?
3. Using other peoples ideas, opinions, theories or work.
4. Statistics, tables, charts, images
Always consider.....'knowing' is not enough
5. Any potential direct quotes to be used with " "
6. Referencing list has to be Harvard style with in-text citation
7. Referencing should be in alphabetical order
8. What happens if there are lots of names in the reference? Will this affect my words count?
9. Latin meaning "et alia" (and others)
10. The use of et al., refers to 4 or more authors
11.You name the primary listed author (straud et al., 2018, pg.45)
12. Assignment has to have no less than 20 Harvard references with citations. References have to be in alphabetical order on reference list.
When citing multiple authors from more than one source:
1.Single set of brackets
2.Date order, older first
3. Separated with a semi-colon
Sources cannot be grey sources.
Gain sources from google scholar, JRCALC, NICE guidelines etc
