Project Description:

As a demonstration of learning in MUS 140: Basic Music Theory, students will be tasked with composing an original piece of music for keyboard. Compositions must demonstrate musical techniques (specifics below) and a thorough understanding of overall content. A final composition should include the following ideas:

Your name, TA name, class name, due date, and assignment title at the top of the page.
A grand staff (treble and bass clefs, duple meter). Piece length should be at least 16 measures and at most 32 measures.
The treble clef (R.H.) should include a melody with associated scale degrees in your chosen key, including the following attributes (labeled):
At least [4] different intervals leaps (ex. M2, m3, P4, A4/d5, etc.).
At least [3] different rhythmic ideas (ex. eighth-quarter-eighth notes).
At least [2] different non-chord tones (ex. appoggiatura, escape tone).
The bass clef (L.H.) should include a chordal harmony with associated roman numerals, including the following attributes (labeled):
An accompaniment comprised of half notes (two different chords per measure).
Use of chord progressions (at least [1] chord should be a seventh chord).
