Arabic Scholarly Translator – Critical Edition Project

We are preparing a critical Arabic edition of a foundational literary work and require a specialist translator to undertake the meticulous translation of its accompanying apparatus criticus and analytical commentary. This project involves localizing a dense, scholarly English analysis—complete with critical footnotes, variant readings, and interpretative commentary—into precise, academically sound Arabic.
This is a task of significant intellectual responsibility. The translation must meet the exacting standards of Arabic academic publishing, preserving the analytical rigor of the source while ensuring all critical terminology and philological notes are rendered with absolute accuracy for a scholarly audience.
Key Responsibilities:
Translate a comprehensive scholarly analysis and its apparatus criticus (critical notes, variant readings, editorial commentary) from English into formal, academic Arabic.
Establish and maintain consistent Arabic equivalents for specialized literary and critical terminology (e.g., textual variants, hermeneutics, intertextuality, philological analysis).
Faithfully reproduce the structure and function of all footnotes and annotations, adding translator’s notes where necessary to clarify context for an Arabic readership.
Ensure the final manuscript aligns with the conventions of Arabic academic discourse in the humanities.
Required Skills & Experience:
Native-level Arabic with proven excellence in formal, academic writing. Experience translating humanities or literary scholarship is essential.
Advanced to native English proficiency (C1/C2 minimum), with the ability to parse complex theoretical arguments and dense prose.
A strong academic background in literature, comparative literature, philology, or a related field. A relevant postgraduate degree is a significant asset.
Demonstrable familiarity with the standards and style of Arabic academic publishing.
