Ancient Portrait Analysis by Blinded Coder
Budget: $30 – $250 USD
Title: Blind Coder for Archaeological Portrait Morphology (25 Figures, Flat Fee)
Project Overview:
We are recruiting a meticulous blinded coder for a pilot inter-rater reliability (IRR) study in classical archaeology. You will analyze high-resolution facial portraits of ancient Greek and Roman figures, coding nasofrontal junction morphology and status indicators using a standardized codebook.
Content Note:
This task involves analyzing high-resolution images of ancient Greek and Roman portraiture. Some figures depict nude or semi-nude subjects consistent with classical artistic conventions. All images are scholarly, non-explicit, and presented in an academic context. If you prefer not to work with this type of content, please kindly pass on this opportunity.
Scope of Work:
• Complete a 5-figure screening test following structured coding rules (required before full task assignment)
• Code a randomized set of 20 pilot figures
• Submit completed coding form within 48 hours of full packet release
Requirements:
• High attention to detail; ability to follow strict coding protocols is essential
• Experience in art history, archaeology, anthropology, or visual morphology analysis is preferred but not required
• Availability within the next 7 days
Compensation & Structure:
• Screening test: Three freelancers will be invited to complete the screening test. Each will be paid $20 upon good-faith completion, regardless of pass/fail outcome
• Remaining $130 released upon satisfactory completion of the 20-figure IRR packet
• Total Flat Fee: $150 (USD) for the complete 25-figure task
**Contingency**
• If the analysis of the blind coder’s submission warrants, you may be contacted for a paid follow-up
Budget Cap: Total project compensation will not exceed $300 USD under any circumstances.
Selection Process:
1. Submit your application with brief relevant experience.
2. If shortlisted, you'll be invited to complete a paid 5-figure screening test ($20 flat fee).
3. One candidate—the one who demonstrates the strongest protocol adherence on the screener—will be offered the full 20-figure pilot task ($130 flat fee).
Note: Only 3 applicants will be selected for the paid screening phase to ensure quality control and efficient budget management.
Quality Threshold:
After you complete the 20-figure packet, we will calculate inter-rater reliability (Cohen's kappa). If inter-rater reliability falls below the standard threshold (κ < 0.70), you may be contacted for a small paid follow-up (flat fee, mutually agreed).
