Addressing Methodological Gaps in Health Research: A Systematic Review Approach

RESEARCH PROPOSAL: INTENT TO SUBMIT A PROPOSAL ASSIGNMENT
INSTRUCTIONS
OVERVIEW
Often when researchers prepare a research grant, they are required to submit an “Intent to Submit
a Proposal” before they submit their research proposal. In this class, you will prepare a 5–7 page
Research Proposal: Intent to Submit a Proposal Assignment, which will introduce the
Research Proposal: Final Submission Assignment that you will submit later in this class.
Please include the following sections and keep in mind that you are writing this to briefly
describe to the reader what you plan to submit more fully in your Research Proposal: Final
Submission Assignment. The purpose of this Research Proposal: Intent to Submit a
Proposal Assignment is to convince the reader that your study is theoretically necessary to your
research topic area.
INSTRUCTIONS
Sections to include in your Research Proposal: Intent to Submit a Proposal Assignment
paper:
1. A title page.
2. An introduction to the concept/constructs being studied.
3. A 2–3 page review of research on your topic. This will be a concise summary of the
research literature that sets the foundation for your project. The purpose of this section to
tell the reader what is already known on your topic. This is not the complete literature
review as a more complete literature review will be included later in the Research
Proposal: Final Submission Assignment.
4. A problem statement that clearly outlines the gap in the research that your research
proposal is addressing. The problem statement must be approximately 300–400 words
and clearly and succinctly state what is known on your topic and what still needs to be
known. This section builds upon the review of the research and will make a strong
argument for the need for your study based on the gap that is identified.
5. A purpose section that discusses the purpose of the study and clear research questions for
the study. This should follow from the gap identified in the problem statement.
6. A brief overview of the research method (less than one page) that will be employed to
answer the research questions.
7. A reference page with at least 25 journal articles on the topic (please note that at least 25
references are required for the Research Proposal: Final Submission Assignment).
All components must be presented in current APA format. The title page and reference page are
not included in the 5–7 page requirement.
