About the Project
I am Dr Emeka Ike, a GP, rural practice owner, and founder of community and charity initiatives across Nigeria, the UK, and Australia. I'm writing a research-informed, story-rich book titled:
From Blame to Build: A Practical Guide for African Migrants in the West
The book explores how mindset, skills, networks, family, faith, and civic engagement shape real-life outcomes for African migrants. It blends data, academic research, and real stories with practical tools. The core framework is called "Builders, Not Blamers"—helping migrants move from justified frustration toward constructive action.
I need a Research Assistant to collect, organise, and summarise information from academic and credible web sources. I will conduct all interviews personally. Your role is desk research and organisation only.
This Posting: Packet 1 – African Migrants in Australia
This job is for a single, defined research task (Packet 1). If we work well together, there will be additional research packets covering other themes.
Packet 1 Goal:
Give me a clear, data-backed picture of how African-born people are doing in Australia—employment, income, education, discrimination, belonging, and civic participation.
Packet 1 Deliverables:
Data Table (Excel or Google Sheets)
Employment and unemployment rates for African-born Australians
Median income comparisons
Education levels and overqualification rates
Discrimination and belonging survey results
Volunteering and civic participation rates
Each row must include: population group, figure, source, year
Summary Document (2–3 pages, plain English)
What do these numbers suggest about African migrants in Australia?
Where are they doing well? Where are they struggling?
Any surprising or strong findings
5–10 "quotable stats" I can use directly in the book

Experience with academic research or literature review (university or professional)
Ability to summarise complex material in clear, plain English
Comfortable with Excel or Google Sheets for basic data tables
Strong attention to detail and good organisation
Able to work independently from a written brief
Nice to Have (not essential):
Familiarity with African diaspora communities or migration research
Background in social sciences, public health, psychology, sociology, or economics
Experience with Zotero, Mendeley, or similar reference tools

Future Work
If Packet 1 goes well, additional research packets will cover:
Psychology of mindset and agency (locus of control, growth mindset, learned helplessness)
Faith communities and migrant integration
Household economics and financial behaviours
Western hiring practices and credential recognition
Second-generation migrant outcomes
Comparative data from UK, US, and Canada
Each packet will be a separate fixed-price agreement.
