About the Research
I am a Sociologist at the University of Cambridge, conducting a 100% academic dissertation study (no commercial use) on “labour mobility and worker power among remote gig workers”. This research focuses on how gig workers interact with platform reputation systems (star ratings, feedback scores), how labour mobility is shaped by platform reputation, and workers’ perceptions of collective and individual power in the gig economy. The study has received ethical approval from the University of Cambridge Sociology Department, with strict data protection and anonymity protocols in place.
What I am Looking For
I seek active remote gig workers meeting the following criteria to participate in an asynchronous text interview:
1. Currently generating income across multiple remote gig work platforms – defined as online digital platforms that facilitate the sourcing of clients, completion of task-based remote work, and platform-mediated payment disbursement for temporary, project-based digital work
2. Hold a platform reputation rating of 4.5/5 stars or higher (to center workers with established experience engaging with platform reputation systems).
What the Interview Involves (No Live Calls!)
This is a flexible asynchronous online text interview. You answer on your own schedule, with no rushed deadlines:
1. You will receive 9 core research questions via platform message in a shareable document.
2. 2–4 days to complete and return initial answers (no rush).
3. 2–3 rounds of brief clarifying questions (reply at your convenience; preferred within 3 working days).
4. Total time commitment (estimated): ~50 mins for initial answers + ~40 mins for follow-ups (split across your free time—no single long session required).
What You’ll Receive for Participation
1. Guaranteed 5-star rating on your platform profile (your honest insights are the only priority—ratings are not tied to your answers!).
2. Fair, negotiated compensatio: Calculated based on your average wage rate and total time commitment for the interview, with a final agreement made prior to the start of the project.

3. All interview documents are stored in encrypted digital files, accessible only by the researcher and my Cambridge academic supervisor.
4. All data will be permanently deleted 1 year after the study is completed.
