Journal Dataset Retrieval Librarian

Job ID: 40212265

Budget: $30 – $250 USD

I have a research project in science and technology that relies on analysing existing datasets buried inside journal publications. The task is straightforward but painstaking: comb through major journal databases—peer-reviewed, open-access, and subscription-based alike—and download every dataset that fits the topic brief I will supply (keywords, time span, preferred disciplines, etc.).

What matters most is reliable coverage. You will need the skills and, where necessary, the institutional access to reach platforms such as IEEE Xplore, ScienceDirect, SpringerLink, Wiley, Sage and any other relevant repositories that hold supplemental files or data appendices. Each dataset must be saved in its original format, accompanied by its citation in BibTeX or RIS, and logged in a simple spreadsheet so I can trace it back instantly.

Deliverables
• A folder structure organised by journal source, with the raw datasets inside
• A master spreadsheet listing article title, authors, journal, year, DOI, database location, and local file path
• A short summary (PDF or DOCX) noting search strings used, databases queried, and any access limitations encountered

Acceptance criteria
• Every entry in the spreadsheet links to an actual dataset file in the folder structure
• Citations are complete and correctly formatted
• Work is delivered in a single compressed archive for easy hand-off

If you already handle data acquisition for academic teams—or have librarian credentials with broad database logins—this should be a comfortable assignment. Turnaround within two weeks is ideal, but let me know if a different schedule suits you better.
