Academic Research Assistance Required
Budget: $10 – $30 USD
The main goals of this activity are for you to select new sources, work on your thesis, and find an individual to highlight in your Research Paper. You may use AI for question 4. HOWEVER, you must carefully follow the instructions, and you cannot copy and paste information from a chatbot. Do not use AI for any of the other questions. You will submit your assignment to Turnitin, and if you have a high similarity match, you will receive a zero.
Additionally, this assignment will allow the instructor and TAs to see your research so far and provide any feedback or assistance you may need. Please make sure you read the instructions carefully. This assignment is due Sunday, March 1, at 11:59 pm.
Sources
• Your primary source needs to come from an academic or government institution. Do not cite or use sources from History Channel, Wikipedia, and Britannica.
• Any secondary source that you use or cite must have been written after 1990.
• You cannot use or cite a secondary source that is more than thirty pages long.
o You can cite chapters and page numbers from books and journal articles as your sources.
• You must read the entirety of your source.
Specific Person
• In your research paper, you will highlight the experiences of single person who was involved within your topic.
• You must have a primary source written by this individual or one written about them.
• People to avoid:
o Presidents
o Military Generals
o Famous celebrities. No actors, musicians, or influencers.
Thesis
• For question 4, you will write a rough draft of your thesis/argument.
• Your argument may change after this assignment; this question is meant for you to start workshopping your thesis and to start thinking about the central point of your paper.
• Things to include:
o Clearly state your topic and subtopic.
o Why you think it hasn’t been properly addressed.
o What you think we can do to fix this?
Questions
Your responses need to be on a separate document and should be multiple sentences for every question.
1. State your Topic and Subtopic.
2. Find and cite three primary sources. In your own words, describe what is being said in each source and why you picked it. Do not use AI.
3. Find and cite two secondary sources. In your own words, state the argument of each source and why you picked it. Do not use AI.
4. In a couple of sentences, state your argument for your article (this isn’t your final thesis). Do not use AI.
5. Using Chat GPT, Gemini, or CoPilot, search for possible individuals to focus on in your paper. In your own words, describe what the Chatbot suggested.
6. After reading and finding primary and secondary sources, what individual do you want to highlight? Explain. Do not use AI.
