Finite Element Analysis (FEA) Report for Pedestrian Access Hatch Cover (MS + Stainless Steel)

Job ID: 40132705

Budget: $30 – $250 USD

Project Description

We are looking to appoint an experienced Structural / Mechanical Engineer to carry out a Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and issue a formal calculation report for a recessed access hatch cover designed for pedestrian load only.

The design is already completed. The scope of work is analysis and verification only, not design development.

The access hatch is a large-format recessed cover, approximately 3000 mm × 3000 mm, fabricated using a combination of Mild Steel (MS) structural members and Stainless Steel cover plates.

Scope of Work

The consultant will be required to:

Review Provided Design Data

2D / 3D drawings (DWG / PDF)

Material specifications

Section details and support conditions

FEA Structural Analysis

Create an FEA model of the access hatch system

Apply appropriate boundary conditions and supports

Perform linear static structural analysis

Evaluate:

Von Mises stress

Maximum deflection

Stress distribution

Critical stress locations

Load Case Definition (Pedestrian Load Only)

Uniformly Distributed Load (UDL)

Localized load (if required by standard)

Self-weight (dead load)

Compliance Check Against Applicable Standards

Compare stresses and deflections against allowable limits

Confirm whether the system is SAFE / NOT SAFE

Provide utilization ratios where applicable

FEA Report Submission
The final report must include:

Project description

Applicable standards

Material properties

Load assumptions

Boundary conditions

Mesh details

Stress & deflection results

Color contour plots / simulation screenshots

Summary conclusion confirming compliance

Applicable Design Standards

The analysis must comply with internationally recognized standards, such as:

EN 1991-1-1 (Eurocode 1) – Actions on structures

EN 1993-1-1 (Eurocode 3) – Steel structures
OR

BS EN 124 (for access covers – pedestrian class reference)
OR

ASCE 7 – Minimum Design Loads for Buildings (if using American standards)

The engineer must clearly state which standard is adopted and justify load assumptions.

Design Load Requirement (Pedestrian Only)

This access hatch is NOT designed for vehicular traffic.

Required Pedestrian Load (Minimum):

Uniformly Distributed Load (UDL):
5.0 kN/m² (minimum pedestrian loading as per Eurocode / BS practice)

Point Load (if required by chosen standard):
Typically 1.5–2.0 kN applied at the most unfavorable location

The consultant may recommend additional load combinations based on the selected standard.

Hatch Description

Type: Recessed access hatch cover

Overall size: Approx. 3000 mm × 3000 mm

Use: Internal / external pedestrian access

Material:

Structural frame: Mild Steel

Cover plate / visible elements: Stainless Steel (grade to be confirmed)

Support: Hatch supported on surrounding concrete / steel structure (details provided)

Deliverables

Signed & stamped FEA report (PDF)

FEA screenshots / contour plots

Clear statement of compliance

Editable source file (optional but preferred)

Software Requirements

The analysis must be performed using recognized engineering software such as:

ANSYS

Abaqus

SolidWorks Simulation

STAAD / similar professional tools

Required Freelancer Profile

Structural or Mechanical Engineer

Proven experience with FEA of steel structures

Experience with access covers / hatches / plates

Ability to work with Eurocode / BS / ASCE standards

Previous FEA report samples preferred

Important Notes

This is analysis only – no redesign required

All drawings and inputs will be provided after award

Report must be suitable for consultant / client submission
