Course Detail as follow;

Urban economics examines various urban issues from the economic perspective. These issues concern urban land and housing market, urban transportation, urban crime, urban sprawl, land use policies, etc, and we study them as social equilibria arising from individual agent’s profit or utility maximizing behavior.

Economic principles that govern the operation of urban land markets and the development of cities, and show how these principles can be used to understand urban problems and public policies. Why do cities exist? How do firms and households decide where to locate? What determines the price of land and rent? With the theoretical tools, then discuss urban issues of perennial interest like traffic congestion, sprawl, gentrification, zoning, and the role of local government in urban land markets.


The objectives of this course are to:

#provide a logical framework for analyzing new issues may come across in the future.
#make more familiar with related data source and computer programs to analyze them.

1. Identify and explain real estate market supply and demand dynamics
2. Model metropolitan area housing markets in a simple but useful way
3. Recognize the significance of commuting to urban land values
4. Understand and evaluate candidate solutions to urban policy problems such as traffic congestion and housing affordability
5. Explain the importance of agglomeration, congestion, and pricing effects that determine the size of different metropolitan areas
