Four-Wheel Rover CAD Design

I need a complete mechanical design for a four-wheel rover that can navigate mixed environments. The concept is straightforward: the two front wheels will be powered by DC motors (or another motor you can justify) while the rear pair free-roll. I already know I want rubber tires for traction and a semi-autonomous control scheme, but I’m open to your recommendations on exact wheel sizing, tread pattern, gear ratios, and controller hardware if you can back them up with solid engineering reasoning.

Your job starts with a clean CAD model—chassis, wheel assemblies, motor mounts, battery compartment, and every structural bracket—laid out so a fabricator can pick it up and build. I’ll lean on you not just for the 3-D geometry but also for guidance on materials, machining or additive options, and any off-the-shelf parts that will keep costs sensible without sacrificing durability. If you’ve designed rovers, AGVs, or similar robotics platforms before, that’s exactly the experience I’m after, so please highlight those projects when you respond.

Deliverables I expect:
• Fully annotated CAD files (STEP or SolidWorks native)
• Exploded views and basic fabrication drawings for each sub-assembly
• A short design-for-manufacture report covering material choices, fastening methods, and assembly order
• Motor and control architecture recommendations matched to semi-autonomous operation

I’ll review proposals that include links or screenshots of past rover or mobility projects and a quick outline of the tools you’ll use (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Inventor, etc.).
