Custom SteamVR Overlay openxr for Meta Quest 3, Unofficial Chaperone
Budget: €250 – €750 EUR
Project Description:
Using the SteamVR Overlay API
SteamVR includes an Overlay API that allows you to display 2D or 3D images on top of games.
Requirements:
A PNG image with transparency (RGBA), preferably square (e.g., 1024×1024 or 2048×2048).
Basic programming knowledge in C++, C#, or Python with OpenVR bindings.
A Windows program is required that works with SteamVR using OpenXR and Meta Quest 3 in PCVR, capable of creating a rectangular overlay made of a single line that acts as an unofficial Chaperone.
Reason:
The Meta Quest 3 has a Guardian limit of 10×10 meters, while the actual play area is 16×13 meters. Therefore, a custom visual boundary is needed to match the real dimensions of the space.
Functional Requirements:
Rectangular overlay (quad): composed of a line visible in VR through SteamVR.
Compatibility: Meta Quest 3 using SteamVR/OpenXR.
Configurable size in meters, for example 16×13 m.
Always visible while SteamVR is running.
User-configurable options:
Adjust the rectangle’s dimensions in centimeters.
Line thickness with three options: thin, medium, thick.
Line color with three options: gray, blue, and green.
Positioning: the rectangle should be placed at floor level, centered on the origin defined by SteamVR.
Configuration interface: preferably a standalone executable (.exe) with options accessible from the desktop; if possible, also configurable from within SteamVR.
Deliverables:
Windows executable (.exe) with all configurable options.
Complete source code in C++ or C# using OpenVR/OpenXR.
Project Scope:
Small and specific project: only the custom overlay functioning as a play area boundary within SteamVR is required.
