4D Developer – Mac to Windows Migration
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced 4D Developer (Contractor) to migrate an existing 4D application from macOS to Windows. The engagement is project-based, focused on ensuring functional parity, performance stability, and cross-platform compatibility of the solution on Windows.
Scope of Work / Responsibilities
• Review and assess the current 4D application on macOS
• Define and execute a migration approach from Mac to Windows
• Identify and remediate OS-specific issues, including:
o File system paths and permissions
o Platform-dependent code and plugins
o Fonts, printing, UI, and system integrations
• Update and refactor 4D methods, forms, components, and ORDA objects for Windows compatibility
• Ensure data consistency and integrity during and after migration
• Validate third-party integrations, plugins, and external dependencies on Windows
• Perform functional, regression, and performance testing on the Windows environment
• Resolve defects identified during testing and UAT
• Provide technical documentation, migration notes, and deployment instructions
• Support knowledge transfer at project completion
Deliverables
• Fully functional Windows-compatible 4D application
• Migration report highlighting:
o Changes made
o Known limitations (if any)
o Recommendations for future maintenance
• Updated source code and configuration files
• Test results and deployment guide
Required Skills & Experience
• Proven experience as a 4D Developer
• Hands-on experience with 4D on both macOS and Windows
• Strong understanding of cross-platform application behavior in 4D
• Experience with:
o 4D Server / 4D Client deployments
o Debugging platform-specific issues
o File handling and OS-level dependencies
• Familiarity with version control systems (Git, SVN, etc.)
Preferred / Optional Skills
• Prior Mac-to-Windows migration experience
• Knowledge of 4D plugin compatibility and alternatives
• Experience working in contract or project-based roles
• Ability to estimate effort and meet agreed timelines
