GRBL Setup & Beginner Training

Budget: $30 – $250 USD

I have a Windows-based laptop sitting next to a brand-new router engraver that is already assembled and wired. My next step is to get GRBL flashed, install a reliable G-code sender (Candle, UGS, or similar), and run a first test carve on both wood and plastic—but I need a patient guide to walk me through it.

Here is what I’d like from you:

• Remotely guide me through installing the GRBL firmware on the controller board, confirming each step from flashing to verifying the correct baud rate.
• Help me choose, install, and configure a Windows-friendly sender (Candle, Universal Gcode Sender, etc.) so that the machine jogs smoothly in all axes.
• Calibrate steps-per-mm, limit switches, and spindle settings, then run a simple engraving and a through-cut so I can see a clean result on pine and acrylic.
• Explain, in plain language, how to create my own designs using free or low-cost CAM tools and export workable G-code.
• Leave me with a short cheat-sheet of the commands, workflow, and safety checks we covered so I can repeat the process on my own.

A screenshared session (Zoom, Teams, or your preferred tool) works fine, and I’m flexible on scheduling. Once I can confidently jog the machine, zero the axes, and complete a test carve in both materials, I’ll consider the job done.
