Dual-Zone Cat Litter Box 3D Printing -- 3
Budget: $250 – $750 USD
3D Printing of a Dual-Zone Cat Litter Box Prototype
Objective:
Produce one prototype of a dual-zone open-top cat litter box designed according to feline behavioral guidelines. The goal is to validate the form, rigidity, and overall usability before launching production.
Process:
Fused Granulate Fabrication (FGF) preferred, or high-quality FDM if FGF is unavailable.
The part must maintain dimensional stability over a large surface area (~40×58×18 cm).
Material:
Primary choice:
Polypropylene + 30% Glass Fiber (PP-GF30)
Alternate acceptable options (if PP-GF is unavailable):
ASA + Glass Fiber (ASA-GF)
PETG (only if structurally reinforced)
Avoid ABS and non-reinforced nylon.
Material must be:
Rigid, moisture/urine-resistant, and suitable for cleaning
Low warping and stable over large, flat surfaces
Quantity
1 prototype unit
Surface Finishing
Functional finish (not cosmetic), but:
Smooth enough to be cleaned easily (no excessive layer ridges)
No support material residue on internal surfaces
No coating or painting required
Optional: minor post-processing (sanding, deburring) if it improves handling or usability
