The living room in my single-story ranch home is ready for a dramatic lift. I want a traditional-style scissor-truss system that raises the existing flat ceiling into a graceful vault without losing the cozy charm of the house. The scope is purely structural and architectural for this one room; all other spaces will keep their current ceilings.
Key points you’ll need to address
• Produce full structural drawings and connection details suitable for permit submission and contractor use.
• Model the truss layout so it supports integrated recessed lighting runs and two ceiling-fan mounting points; wire chases and clearances must be accounted for.
• Respect existing wall placement and roof pitch—no exterior profile changes beyond what a standard scissor truss requires.
• Traditional aesthetics should guide any exposed members or decorative trim suggestions.
Preferred file types are PDF plan sets plus the native model (DWG, Revit, or SketchUp—your choice so long as dimensions remain editable). Engineering calcs for live, dead, and snow loads need to accompany the drawings so my local engineer can stamp them if required.
Once the design set is complete and coordinated with the lighting and fan layout, a brief revision round will finalize everything for builder sign-off.
