Silo Design
Budget: ₹400 – ₹750 INR
I have created a detail 3D model of silos for cement storage having capacity of 100 tons for the detail modeling I divided the silo in three sections and then assembled them total of 32 silos were there of different diameters.
The First section included the top cover plate which was mounted on I-Beam of
75x150 with thickness of 8mm & 5mm and the 6mm thick sell of 3600mm diameter
and the cover plate was also 6mm with a diameter of 3700mm and the above openings
of the silo were of different diameter. The cover was on top of 200x75 channel which
was welded on shell of 500mm height. Also, a ring was fabricated at 400mm distance
to give strength and to support the hook plate of the silo total 4 hook plate were there
in the design which was 25mm thick and was supported by a pad plate of 20 mm
thickness with a width of 300mm and a height of 200mm.
The second section of the silo was not a difficult job as it only contains 2 sells of 6mm
thickness and 1500mm height with a diameter of 3600. also, two ring of 16 mm and
20 mm thickness respectively with a diameter of 3612mm each was welded at the
distance of 1380mm and 1000 mm respectively.
The third and the last section of the silo was the most difficult to design as well as to
manufacture as it contains 2 cones of 3600mm & 2200mm diameter respectively and
thickness of 8mm & 6mm respectively also 2 rings of 20 mm thickness and diameter
of 3620mm & 2750mm respectively. The whole cone was welded to a sell of 10 mm
thickness and height of 1280 mm with 3600mm diameter.

Apart from this the leg plate of the silo was mounted on the 6mm thickness plate which was
the support for the rib plate of thickness 20 mm the leg plate was 25 mm thick. There was
total 4 sets of leg and rib plate each set contains 3 rib plate and 1 leg plate.
Also, rods of 20 mm thickness and 960 mm height was mounted on the ring for the support of
the silo and to increase its strength. To increase the strength further stiffness plates were
welded in between to leg plates at an angle of 30 degree a total 8 sets of stiffeners were there
each set contains 2 stiffness plate with 10 mm thickness. Also, to increase the further strength
of the cone rings of 12mm thickness and height of 200mm was welded inside total 5 ring
were there at height difference of 250 mm.
