Sheet-Metal Cost Estimator
Budget: $15 – $25 USD
I need reliable, quick-turn estimates for our custom sheet-metal jobs so the shop can quote faster and schedule machines with confidence. All of the work originates from SolidWorks models and is processed on our lasers and other CNC equipment. Typical parts are cut from steel, aluminum, and stainless steel in the 2 mm – 5 mm range, then formed and finished in-house.
What I’m looking for is someone who can open the SolidWorks file, determine flat-pattern size, nest efficiency, and calculate both raw material usage and the true machine time—piercing, cutting, tool-change, and any secondary ops—so I can drop those numbers straight into our quoting sheet. If you already use built-in SolidWorks costing, third-party plug-ins, or your own spreadsheet, that’s fine as long as the final figures are accurate and traceable.
Deliverables for each part or assembly:
• Breakdown showing material type, sheet size utilised, and yield
• Detailed machine-time estimate (laser, press brake, or CNC routing where applicable)
• Summary cost line I can paste into our quote, with any rate assumptions clearly stated
I will supply the SolidWorks or DXF files and any special notes on tolerances or finish; you return the estimate, ideally within 24 hours of receiving the file. Consistency and transparency are key—if we can lock in a process that keeps variances under 5 %, this can turn into steady, ongoing work.
