Symex Labs, an innovator in wearable biosensing, requires the services of a Senior Mechanical Engineer on a freelance or part-time contract basis. We are looking for someone with experience in product development and rapid prototyping, ideally in medical devices or other highly regulated industry. Google 'Abbott Freestyle Libre 2' or 'Dexcom G7' to have an idea of the kind of product you will helping us design.

It is a role with variable time requirements and critical deadlines, therefore suits engineers who are experienced with freelance work and have a demonstrated track record of delivering for clients while working at a fast pace.

About the Role

This is a unique opportunity to work with a collaborative team developing a product from concept through to manufacture.

Participate in the generation of new product and system design specifications for our wearable sensor housing and needle design.

Develop and implement ideas into CAD models using 3D CAD

Conceptualise and develop complex mechanisms and integrate electronic components and systems into products

Perform mechanical product research and produce prototypes

Liaise with other contractors, suppliers and tool makers

Assist in producing design documentation to meet medical device requirements e.g. ISO13485

Ability and willingness to occasionally travel to Symex Labs Melbourne CBD office to meet with the team and work collaboratively

About You

Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, industrial design, product design or related field

5+ years' mechanical engineering experience with a least 2 years in a similar role. Highly preferably to have past experience in mechanical design for a wearable or implantable medtech product.

Extensive knowledge in injection moulding and different rapid prototyping methods

Highly creative with strong problem-solving skills

3D CAD design skills with common CAD software packages

Excellent written communication and documentation skills
