Objective

I am developing a magnetic crawler robot that can operate on ferrous surfaces. The crawler needs to be controlled via a wired remote controller. I am looking for an experienced robotics/mechanical/electrical engineer who can provide design suggestions, component selection, electrical/electronic setup, control system development, 3D modeling, cost estimation, and optionally support fabrication.

Basic Crawler Specs (tentative)

Frame size: Approx. 747 mm (L) × 562 mm (W) × 310 mm (H)

Drive system: 4 wheels + 2 / 4 Motors

Operation: Heavy-duty, continuous operation on metallic surfaces

Control: Wired remote controller (forward, reverse, speed control, direction control)

Technical Requirements
Motors & Gearbox

Options for stepper motors (NEMA23 / NEMA34 or equivalent) with suitable torque.

Guidance on gearbox selection (planetary / spur / worm) and reduction ratios.

Possible combinations for speed vs torque optimization.

Controller & Electronics

Suggestions for stepper motor drivers, power supply, and remote control wiring.

Options for DPDT switch control, joystick, or potentiometer-based speed control.

Electrical and electronic setup details to be provided (drivers, fuses, connectors, wiring diagram, power rating, safety).

Control system to be developed including wiring harness, connectors, and remote unit integration.

Frame Construction

Material: Aluminium alloy (options 6061 / 6082 / 6063 extrusions / 7075).

Cost estimation per kg and fabrication method (welding, machining, T-slot).

Approx. frame weight requirement: 10–12 kg aluminium.

3D Design & Documentation

I will provide sketches, images, and videos of the concept.

Freelancer to create a detailed 3D CAD design (SolidWorks / Fusion 360 / AutoCAD or similar).

This 3D model will be used as the final reference for product development & fabrication.

Budgeting

Approximate costing for high-end heavy-duty build (motors, gearbox, drivers, frame).

Cost comparison of different aluminium alloys (strength vs price).

Guidance on sourcing parts (India or international).

Deliverables Expected

Technical suggestions & feasibility report (motor + gearbox + frame + electronics).

Electrical and electronic system design with control system integration.

Component list with cost estimate (India or global suppliers).

3D CAD design model based on provided sketches/videos.

Optional: Fabrication/assembly support (if freelancer is interested in actual build).

Preferred Expertise

Robotics / mechatronics / mechanical design.

Experience with stepper motor control & gear systems.

Knowledge of aluminium alloy fabrication (welding/machining/extrusion).

Electrical and electronic system design expertise.

Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, etc.).

Familiarity with crawler/robot chassis design.

Additional Notes

Project is for an industrial application.

I am open to both remote consultancy and hands-on fabrication support (India-based preferred but not mandatory).

Instead of quoting for the entire project, I am also comfortable with section-wise quotes for specific tasks (motors/gearbox, electronics, frame, control system, 3D design, etc.).
