Prototype Needed – Mechanical Handheld Tool (From Existing CAD Model)

Job ID: 40320132

Budget: £250 – £750 GBP

Project Description:

Hi,

I’m looking for someone to help produce a working physical prototype of a handheld mechanical product I’ve developed.

The CAD design has already been completed, and I can provide:

STEP files
Assembly files
Supporting visuals

About the product:

The product is a slim handheld tool (approx. 210 mm long × 15 mm diameter) featuring:

A manual slider mechanism
Internal push rod and spring system
A small front gripping mechanism (4-prong style)
A rear removable cap

The mechanism is designed to be smooth, controlled and user-friendly, rather than heavy-duty.

What I need:

A functional prototype that demonstrates:
Slider movement
Internal actuation
Opening/closing of the gripping mechanism
Advice on:
Best prototyping method (3D printing, CNC, hybrid, etc.)
Suitable materials for this stage

Important:

I understand the CAD model may need adjustments for real-world buildability
I’m happy for you to suggest modifications to:
tolerances
materials
internal components
The goal is a working prototype, not a production-ready unit at this stage

Deliverables:

1 physical prototype (shipped to UK)
Updated CAD files if changes are made
Brief explanation of materials and method used

Ideal candidate:

Experience with mechanical prototyping
Familiar with small moving assemblies
Able to bridge CAD → real-world build

Nice to have:

Experience with consumer products or handheld devices

To apply, please:

Confirm your proposed build method
Provide an estimated cost and timeline

Happy to answer any questions and share files with shortlisted candidates.

Thanks,
Nikki
