Premium Pen Tool Prototype Development
Budget: $750 – $1,500 USD
I’ve already sketched and modelled a sleek, pen-sized instrument that fuses four everyday essentials for medical-device reps: a fine-tip pen, a permanent marker, a rechargeable laser pointer, and a concealed, auto-retracting ceramic blade for opening cartons. Now I need to see it come to life in the form of one or two fully working prototypes that prove every feature actually functions.
Functionality and quality are my top priorities. The prototypes have to write cleanly, shine a steady laser, and retract the blade the instant pressure is released. To make that viable all day, battery life and a convenient USB-C (or similarly compact) charging solution are non-negotiable. Safety is equally critical: the laser must include recessed button for activation, and the ceramic blade mechanism must lock away reliably inside the body.
The housing should showcase a seamless blend of brushed aluminium and stainless steel so it looks and feels like professional surgical instrumentation while keeping weight balanced in hand. Ergonomics and surface finish can be refined later; right now I need proof that the mechanisms, power system, and recharge circuit perform and can be reused and re-charged repeatedly.

What I need back:
• One or two fully assembled, working prototypes shipped to me.
• A concise build dossier—CAD revisions, BOM with supplier links, machining notes, wiring diagram, and any firmware if used.
• Photos or a short video that demonstrate each function before shipping.
Acceptance criteria:
• All four functions operate smoothly and independently.
• Blade retracts under spring force every time.
• Laser operates for at least 30 minutes cumulative on a full charge.
• USB-C charge completes safely with an indicator LED.
• No burrs or rough edges; the finish is presentation-ready.
I’m open to other designs, if it must be modular to include all four must haves and make them refillable/reusable, so be it, my initial thought was to have a hinge or internal swivel with a spring loaded retractable sleeve for the marker and pen to be interchangeable on one end, and the batteries laser and charging port on the other end, with the blade somehow involved but that design made incorporation of the blade/box cutter hard to imagine or integrate.
