3D Polygon Prop Modeling
Budget: $10 – $30 USD
Model a simple 3D object using only polygon primitives. A complex sign or light post, a fire hydrant, a ventilation system, or some type of prop you’d find on a movie set.
This is the first of several models you will be making. It will serve as a platform to establish a stylistic tone. It will also serve as a basis for gaining comfort with building and manipulating polygon primitives.
I highly suggest starting with sketches and drawings for ideation. Front / Side and Top views help. Perspectives views help. Drawing is the most tactile place for you to begin the process of learning about and maturing your ideas. Often your first ideas won't be as sophisticated because you haven't had time to learn from your design and explore what the model is communicating back to you. That takes time. Drawing lets you push ideas sooner.
You will likely want to use some basic NURBS curves such as Create NURBS - Circle as controllers. These act as door handles, hinges, or other pivot points. You saw them in the Planet assignment.
Once you have those basic control curves. Use Polygon primitives, the early limited mesh editing tools, and whatever other tools to make a simple prop for what will eventually become an entire 3D scene.
Save your work
Once Saved. Save As... to make another one and use the curves to attempt to animate the scene.
