"Pleated Skin" Fashion-Inspired Façade
Budget: $30 – $250 USD
Façade Concept: "Pleated Skin"
The idea is inspired by fashion pleating techniques — like folding, layering, and fabric movement — translated into an architectural skin. Each façade will appear like a series of pleated panels, similar to how a pleated garment expands and contracts.
The design will reflect movement and elegance (linked to fashion) while providing solar shading and ventilation.
Geometry: Triangular Panel System
The panels should be modeled as triangular and responsive, taking inspiration from the FlectoLine Facade – Freiburg, 2024, designed by ITKE. The panels will not be dynamic in the model, but they should suggest lightness and responsiveness through their angled and folded geometry.
Each façade (North, South, East, and West) should use the same triangular panel system, but the pattern or orientation of the panels will adapt based on sun exposure and orientation:
East/West: denser or tighter pattern to block low-angle sun
North: more open and expressive for daylight
South: subtle and even, as it’s the cooler façade
