Mechanical Engineer – Plastic Injection Molding Expert for Product Component Design & Mold Development
Description:
We’re looking for a highly skilled mechanical engineer with deep expertise in plastic injection molding to assist in the selection, specification, and integration of mechanical components for a consumer product. The role will involve evaluating snap-fit and latch mechanisms, optimizing plastic part design for manufacturing, and collaborating on mold-ready files.
Key Responsibilities:
Review and refine design concepts with a focus on manufacturability and mold cost
Assist in selecting suitable mechanical latch or push-to-open systems compatible with injection molding
Design or adjust internal components and mounting features (e.g., snap-fit tabs, detents, hinge points, spring cavities)
Provide DFM (Design for Manufacturing) recommendations
Develop or refine mold-ready 3D files and 2D technical drawings
Collaborate with us to prepare for tooling and supplier handover
Proven experience in plastic injection molded product development
Deep knowledge of materials like ABS, PP, PC, and POM
Familiarity with latch, snap-fit, or push-to-open component design
Ability to generate DFM-compliant files for multi-part assemblies
Experience working with mold makers or factories (especially China-based)
Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar)
Excellent communication and willingness to iterate quickly
Deliverables:
Final 3D CAD files (STEP, IGES)
DFM-ready designs for injection molding
Technical drawings for each part with tolerances
Component specification for latch/closure system
