Nokia 8800 Android Retrofit

Job ID: 39723032

Budget: $750 – $1,500 USD

I ‘d like to retrofit the original Nokia 8800 (2005-2006 model) case with the internals of a small Android device so that it runs Android OS, charges via USB-C, and can handle basic apps and some utility apps (calling, messaging, Signal, Spotify, maps, Uber, calendar and a camera).

• Disassemble a donor Android mini phone (Palm PVG100, Unihertz Jelly, or similar) and fit its board, battery, display, and USB-C port inside the Nokia 8810 shell.
• Align the donor USB-C port with the Nokia’s bottom cutout.
• Mount the screen behind the Nokia window (some case trimming is fine).
• Optionally: map Nokia buttons (at least red/green call buttons) to Android power/volume via tactile switches.
• Provide a mechanical mounting solution (3D-printed sled or internal frame) so the parts sit securely.
• Ensure working charging, screen, audio, mic, and antennas.

Deliverables
• A working physical prototype (I can ship the Nokia 8810 shell to you, or you can source one if easier).
• CAD/3D-print files for the internal sled/frame.
• Documentation on what donor phone was used, wiring mods (if any), and build steps.

Skills Needed
• Embedded hardware / electronics prototyping
• Small-form-factor electronics integration
• Soldering / rework of mobile boards
• Mechanical design (3D-printing small mounts/brackets)
• Android hardware familiarity

Budget & Timeline
• Open to offers depending on scope and skill level.
• Goal: working prototype (not mass production).
