Tutoring. Nanoscience includes both Introductory Nanoscience and Advanced Nanoscience 1. Introductory Nanoscience covers the fundamental concepts of nanotechnology, including why materials behave differently at the nanoscale due to quantum confinement and high surface-to-volume ratio, the classification of nanostructures into 0D, 1D, 2D, and 3D systems with emphasis on carbon-based materials, and thin-film growth and nanofabrication techniques such as different growth modes, top-down and bottom-up approaches, and lithography. It also introduces the optical and electronic properties of nanomaterials, basic low-dimensional electron physics, and common characterisation techniques such as STM, TEM, spectroscopy, self-assembly, nanoclusters, and simple nanoelectronic devices.
Advanced Nanoscience 1 focuses on how light and electrons interact with matter at the nanometre scale, with an emphasis on experimental and characterisation techniques rather than fabrication. Topics include the fundamental limits of optical resolution, molecular photophysics and fluorescence processes, advanced optical microscopy (confocal, TIRF, and super-resolution methods), nanoscale spectroscopy and time-resolved measurements, energy-transfer mechanisms such as FRET, and electron-based techniques for nanoscale materials analysis.
