Mechanical Prototype Development Engineer
Budget: $750 – $1,500 USD
I have a mechanical concept that has moved past the sketch-on-paper phase and is now sitting in an early CAD layout. I need a mechanically minded engineer who can partner with me through the initial design stage and carry it all the way to a build-ready prototype.
The core of the job is to turn my rough geometry into manufacturable components: refine tolerances, choose practical materials, and confirm that every moving part will operate safely and repeatably. I’m open to the specific tool you prefer—SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Inventor, or a comparable parametric system—as long as the final files are industry-standard and editable.
Along the way I’ll look to you for:
• Clean, fully-constrained CAD assemblies and detailed part drawings
• A concise bill of materials with vendor-ready specs
• DFM/DFA feedback so the first physical build is cost-effective
• A brief test plan outlining functional checks once the prototype is produced
Acceptance will be based on accurate fit between mating parts, clear fabrication notes, and CAD files that import without errors.
