Laser Cutting System Redesign from Highcon Euclid I
Budget: $3,000 – $5,000 USD
Project Title:
Custom Laser Cutting System Design Utilizing Components from Highcon Euclid I
Project Description:
We are seeking an experienced mechanical design engineer with expertise in laser cutting systems to assist in designing a custom laser cutting machine utilizing salvaged components from an original Highcon Euclid I system.
The Euclid I was acquired over a decade ago but has remained unused in sealed export packaging due to spatial constraints and unmet functional requirements. We now aim to repurpose core components (e.g., motion systems, casing, optics, possibly the laser head) into a smaller-footprint, production-ready laser cutter tailored to our current operational needs.
Scope of Work:
Analyze and evaluate available components (we will provide photos, dimensions, and any existing documentation)
Propose a new system architecture based on usable modules
Design a mechanical structure that integrates existing parts with new or replacement components
Deliver 3D CAD files, mechanical drawings, and a full Bill of Materials (BOM) for local manufacturing
Optional consultation on compatible motion controllers, power supplies, and laser modules
No physical manufacturing or assembly required — design only
Target Specifications:
Cutting material: Paperboard, thin carton, and light packaging substrates
Work area: Approx. 600 mm x 900 mm
Laser type preference: CO₂, open to alternatives based on compatibility
Precision requirement: ±0.1 mm or better
Automation level: Semi-automatic or modular-ready for automation
Form factor constraint: Compact footprint suitable for limited workspace
Requirements & Deliverables:
Engineering drawings (DWG, STEP or equivalent)
Full CAD assemblies (Fusion 360 or SolidWorks preferred)
Exploded views and installation guides for manufacturing
BOM with vendor suggestions (for non-salvageable components)
Timeline:
Initial draft within 2 weeks, final design within 4 weeks
Budget Range:
USD $2,000 – $4,000, depending on expertise and deliverables
(Flexible for qualified professionals with relevant experience)
Preferred Qualifications:
Proven experience designing laser cutting or CNC systems
Familiarity with motion systems, gantry architecture, and optical alignment
Prior experience with retrofitting or rebuilding industrial equipment is highly valued
Ability to communicate clearly and document assumptions
To Apply, Please Include:
Portfolio of similar machine designs or retrofit projects
Brief description of your approach to this project
Clarifying questions regarding available components or project constraints
