Foot-Operated Toilet Lid Design
Budget: $250 – $750 USD
I’m developing a premium, universal, spring-assisted manual foot-operated toilet lid lifter. The goal is to redesign an existing concept into a high-quality mechanical consumer product that fits all toilets, operates smoothly, and solves the common failures of current versions.
This is a non-electronic, purely mechanical device.
⸻
Why This Product Needs Redesign
Existing products fail due to:
• Poor leverage (can’t lift soft-close lids)
• Unstable mounting (velcro straps, shifting)
• Cheap plastic hinge mechanisms
• Incompatibility with curved or nonstandard toilet shapes
• Awkward pedal angles
I want to create the premium, universal, durable version of this product.
⸻
What I Need Designed
1. Universal Mounting System
Must fit all toilets using:
• Adjustable clamp with silicone pads
• Backup 3M VHB adhesive option
• Optional multi-angle bracket for unusual geometries
• NO velcro straps or permanent modification
2. Spring-Assisted Mechanical Lift
• Foot pedal → lifts lid fully
• Lid stays open without holding the pedal
• Second press lowers it
• Smooth action (gas strut or torsion spring system)
• Works with modern soft-close seat resistance
• Silent or low-noise operation
3. Product Structure
• Reinforced metal internal frame
• ABS/PP outer shell
• Adjustable arm length
• Clean, sealed surfaces for easy cleaning
• Right or left side installation
⸻
Deliverables
I require:
• Full mechanical design
• Industrial design (clean consumer-ready look)
• Complete CAD files (STEP, STL)
• Exploded and assembled views
• Toleranced engineering drawings
• Mechanism diagrams
• BOM (bill of materials)
• Basic instructions for assembly
• Recommendations for prototyping and manufacturing
Optional (bonus):
• Realistic 3D renders
• Short motion animation
⸻
Who I’m Looking For
Someone with experience in:
• Consumer product development
• Spring-assisted mechanisms
• Hinges and linkage systems
• Designing for injection molding
• 3D printing prototypes
• Universal mounting systems
If you’ve designed household hardware, bathroom products, or compact mechanical devices before, that’s a major plus.
⸻
When Applying, Please Answer:
1. How you would approach the universal mounting solution
2. Which spring/strut mechanism you recommend and why
3. Your software/tooling
4. Estimated timeline for concept → final CAD
5. Whether you provide rendering or animation
Budget is flexible based on experience.
Looking for a skilled designer/engineer who can take this from concept to prototype-ready.
