Downhole Tool Design
Budget: $55 – $200 USD
I need to recreate a set of existing OEM downhole tools so they can be manufactured locally in Abu Dhabi. This is a true replication job—not a concept exercise—so every dimension, tolerance, and feature has to match the reference hardware and meet API / ISO oil-field standards.
The heart of the assignment is the manufacturing process itself. I want a step-by-step plan that shows exactly how the parts will be machined, treated, assembled, and tested, with clear justification for each material and process choice. SolidWorks is my preferred platform for the 2D and 3D drawings, but native files plus neutral formats (STEP, PDF) will be required at hand-off.
Deliverables
• Complete SolidWorks drawing package (2D prints and fully-featured 3D models)
• Detailed, structured BOM with raw materials, specs, and buy/make codes
• Written product specification covering functionality, operation, and critical tolerances
• End-to-end manufacturing route, including heat treatment, coatings, and QA checkpoints
• Technology brief explaining how the tool works downhole and how design choices support that functionality
• Verification that all design data aligns with the relevant API and/or ISO clauses
Acceptance will be based on the ability to machine a first-article part directly from your package without additional engineering.
This project can run hourly or on a fixed-fee basis—let me know which model suits your workflow. When you respond, please include examples of previous oil & gas tool projects, especially any work on packers, completion tools, or drilling subs, along with sample drawings you personally authored.
I’m ready to get started as soon as I see that your experience aligns with these requirements.
