Custom 28 mm RC Brushless Motor
Budget: $250 – $750 USD
I need a bespoke 28 mm outrunner brushless motor built from the ground up for an RC plane and tuned to 1380 KV on a 4-cell LiPo. Efficiency and reliability matter more to me than squeezing out every last RPM, so please focus on tight tolerances, a balanced rotor and smooth running throughout the throttle range.
Core requirements
• Stator diameter: 28 mm (outer can to match)
• KV: 1380 ± 3 %
• Voltage: 14.8 V nominal (4 S LiPo)
• Bearing spec: high-grade steel, shielded
• Shaft: 3.175 mm (standard prop adapters welcome)
• Mount pattern: 16/19 mm cross
What I expect from you
1. Engineering drawings or 3D CAD showing the can, stator, windings and mount pattern.
2. Winding chart detailing wire gauge, turn count and termination method that achieves the stated KV.
3. A fully assembled, dynamically balanced prototype ready for bench testing.
4. Basic performance sheet (no-load current, thrust curve on a 9×5 and 10×4.7 prop, temperature after 5-minute WOT run).
5. After approval, a small pilot batch (10 units) with the same QC data supplied.
The motor will be used in a lightweight electric fixed-wing airframe, so overall mass under 90 g and smooth startup on common sensorless ESCs are highly desirable. If you already have comparable designs, feel free to adapt them as long as the final specs above are met.
Typical tools and platforms you might touch: SolidWorks or Fusion 360 for CAD, finite-element analysis for magnetic design, and standard dynamic balancers. I’m happy to review partial deliverables (drawings, winding test results) as milestones so we can lock critical dimensions early.
Let me know your lead time for the prototype, the test procedure you plan to follow, and any suggestions you have for material or winding tweaks that would improve efficiency without compromising durability.
Custom Brushless Motor Manufacturing — RC Motor (Ø28mm, 1380KV, 4S LiPo)
Description:
I am looking for a reliable manufacturing partner (individual or factory) who can produce a custom brushless outrunner motor to my specifications. This will be used in high-performance RC gliders.
Target Specifications:
Cells: 4S LiPo (14.8V nominal)
KV: 1380 RPM/V
Max Current: 60A (30 seconds)
Internal Resistance: 27.4 mΩ
Dimensions: Ø28.1mm × 48.7mm (length)
Shaft Diameter: 5.0mm
Weight: ~101.7g
Recommended Props: 11x6 – 11x8”
What I Need:
Prototype samples first (5–10 units).
Ability to manufacture stator (laminations + winding), rotor (can + magnets), and handle balancing/testing.
Optionally, CNC housings and shafts (I can provide CAD drawings).
High-quality bearings (SKF, NSK, or equivalent preferred).
Reports with KV, resistance, and no-load current for QA.
Quantities:
Small prototype run first.
If successful, production batches of 50–100 units at a time.
Requirements:
Experience with RC or drone motors.
Good communication in English.
Willingness to ship sample units for testing before scaling.
Deliverables:
Fully functional motor prototypes per spec.
Technical documentation (winding details, magnet grade, materials used).
Note: I am open to either full turnkey manufacturing OR partial component supply (for example: stator + rotor only, I can handle housings and final assembly).
