Commercial Adult-Targeted Physical Product Design
Budget: ₹1,250 – ₹2,500 INR
I'm seeking a talented designer/engineer to create a physical product that will be used commercially and targeted at adults.
The details of the project:
Name - Scalp massager to stimulate hair growth.
Aim - To perform firm massages on the scalp to improve blood flow, increase the scalp skin's elasticity and loosen the periphery muscles of head called temporalis, occipitalis and frontalis muscles. Massages are performed by hand today, need to be automated with an electro-mechanical product.
Functions -
1. Massage should be performed by pinching the scalp skin. This is how you would do the same thing with your hands - use your thumb pad and your pointer and middle finger pads to pinch the scalp skin, sometimes lifting the skin in areas that are more pliable (your sides). The idea here is still to create micro-inflammation, but more at the skin-level and less so in the deeper tissues of the scalp.
2. Pressing the sides of the scalp and moving them in circular motion - more specifically the occipitalis, frontalis and temporalis muscles. This is how you would do the same thing with your hands - use your finger pads, palms, and/or knuckles to press firmly against the skin on either side of you head and move them in circular motion. You should feel the side muscles loosen up after doing this activity for 20 seconds.
It might be possible to combine both functions into a single mechanism like pressing against the scalp using two pads separated from each other by an inch and moving both in circular motion. When the pads come close to each other, a pinch will be generated and when they separate, the skin will be stretched. Multiple pads could be placed both on galea and side muscles to cover entire scalp. Unlike most of the products available in market today, this is not a vibration-based product.
Designer has the freedom to come up with creative and new mechanisms to deliver same objective.
Chassis shape - No constraints, it could be like a circular band around the head or a helmet shape or a completely new design.
I believe a successful partnership on this project would require the following skills and experience:
- Good understanding of mechanical components like gears, shafts, motors and air bags.
- Little bit of experience in industrial design, specifically for commercial products
- Ability to translate ideas into detailed, comprehensive designs
- Familiarity with materials and manufacturing processes
Your role will be to provide an innovative design that meets the functionality requirements, taking into account cost and aesthetics. This position requires meticulous attention to detail and a creative mind.
