Senior CAD Technician / Steel Detailer Required – Box Section Frame Fabrication Drawings (Ongoing Work)
Budget: £250 – £750 GBP
The project consists of a multi-bay RHS/SHS steel frame forming part of an internal architectural installation (podium / lobby area), including wall connections, baseplates, and repeated modular sections.
Drawings provided in both PDF and DWG format.
Project Scope:
You will be required to take the supplied design drawings and develop them into a fully resolved fabrication package suitable for direct workshop use.
The frame includes:
Repetitive vertical and horizontal RHS/SHS members
Modular bay spacing and panel coordination
Multiple connection types (wall fixings, cleats, baseplates)
Integration with architectural elements (panels / finishes)
Key Deliverables:
1. General Arrangement (GA) Drawings
Fully dimensioned overall layout
Setting-out information
Grid / bay spacing clearly defined
2. Assembly Drawings
Frame broken into logical fabrication assemblies
Clear identification of all connections
Installation sequence where required
3. Detailed Part Drawings
Individual members (cut lengths, mitres, angles)
Plates (baseplates, cleats, brackets)
Fully dimensioned and fabrication-ready
4. Connection Details (Critical)
You will be required to fully detail connections shown in the design drawings, including:
Beam-to-wall connections (e.g. bolted with M12 fixings)
Column-to-wall cleats (e.g. welded plates)
Baseplates with holding-down bolts
Beam-to-column welded/bolted joints
Technical Requirements:
All drawings must be fully workshop-ready and include:
Accurate and complete dimensioning (no assumptions required)
RHS/SHS member sizes and exact cut lengths
Mitre cuts, joint geometry, and end preparations
Plate sizes, thicknesses, and hole locations
Bolt specifications (e.g. M12 fixings, hole sizes, edge distances)
Full weld specifications:
Weld symbols
Weld sizes (e.g. 6mm fillet welds where applicable)
Weld locations and extents
Tolerances where required for fit-up
Part numbering system and tagging
Fabrication notes where required
Surface finish requirements (if specified)
Input Files Provided:
Architectural / design intent drawings (PDF)
Existing CAD drawings (DWG)
Connection sketches and detail references
Output Required:
DWG fabrication drawing package
PDF issue set for workshop
DXF files for plate cutting (if applicable)
(Preferred) Cut list / Bill of Materials (BOM)
Software Requirements:
AutoCAD (essential)
3D modelling software such as SolidWorks (preferred)
Tekla Structures experience is a strong advantage
Candidate Requirements:
Proven experience in steel fabrication detailing
Experience with RHS/SHS frame systems and connection detailing
Strong understanding of real-world fabrication and installation
Ability to interpret drawings and resolve missing details independently
High attention to detail — drawings must be workshop-ready with no ambiguity
Project Type:
Fixed-price project (please submit your bid)
Potential for ongoing work on similar fabrication projects
Important:
This is not basic drafting work. We are looking for an experienced detailer who can produce drawings that can be issued directly to the workshop without further clarification.
To Apply:
Please include:
Examples of similar steel fabrication / frame detailing work
Brief description of your experience
Software used
Estimated timeframe to complete this project
Shortlisted candidates may be asked to review a small section of the drawing before award.
