Technical Writer Needed to Update Documentation for DIY Bluetooth Speaker Kit (STEM / Schools)
Budget: $30 – $250 USD
We provide a DIY Bluetooth Speaker Kit used in schools and STEM programs. The kits come with pre-assembled circuit boards, and students solder wires between components to complete the build. Students also design and build their own case/enclosure, so documentation must support both the electronics assembly and enclosure planning (enclosure document is not a requirement at this stage).
We are seeking an experienced technical writer / documentation specialist to update and improve the instruction manual, wiring diagram, diagrams/images, and Bill of Materials. The documentation must be easy for teachers and students in Year 10.
Scope of Work
You will be responsible for:
Reviewing the existing manual, diagrams, and assembly notes
Rewriting instructions to be clear, simple, and student-friendly
Updating the Bill of Materials (BOM)
Updating and improving the wiring diagram, ensuring clarity for beginner soldering skills
Creating additional diagrams, step-by-step images, or illustrations
Adding clear instructions for soldering wires between components
Adding guidance on designing and fitting the student-made case/enclosure
Including appropriate safety and handling instructions, especially for soldering and batteries
Creating a troubleshooting section for common build issues
Delivering both print-ready and digital PDF versions
Deliverables
Updated Instruction Manual (PDF)
Updated Bill of Materials
Updated Wiring Diagram (beginner-friendly, clearly labelled)
Updated diagrams/illustrations/photo guides
Optional: Quick-Start Sheet or Teacher’s Guide
Ideal Candidate
Experience creating documentation for electronics, STEM projects, or DIY kits
Ability to simplify technical concepts for young learners
Skills in diagram/illustration tools (Illustrator, Inkscape, Canva, etc.)
Familiarity with soldering and basic electronics
Bonus: Experience in audio electronics or Bluetooth modules
Budget & Timeline
One-time project
Please include your fixed price or hourly rate
Provide an estimated timeline for completion
