Slot-Together Coffee Table Design
Budget: £10 – £15 GBP
I’m developing a 400 mm-diameter, 500 mm-high coffee table that can live happily both indoors and out on a patio. The brief is simple: every part must slide and lock into place—no screws, no tools—yet the finished piece needs to feel solid, look modern, and turn heads in a café setting.
Material
The entire table will be cut from 12 mm-thick coloured compact laminate. Because this sheet stock comes in everything from bright primaries to muted neutrals, the design should allow colour choice to shine without visible fasteners.
Functional goals
• Slots need generous tolerances so anyone can assemble or disassemble the table in under a minute.
• The structure must stay rigid on uneven outdoor surfaces and cope with occasional spills or direct sun.
• All parts must nest efficiently on standard laminate sheet sizes to keep fabrication costs down.
What I need from you
1. A fully dimensioned 3-D model (Fusion 360, SolidWorks, or similar) with parametric joints so I can tweak clearances later if needed.
2. Flat-pattern cut files (DXF/DWG) ready for CNC routing, clearly labelled for grain direction and finish faces.
3. An exploded view or quick-start assembly sheet that a customer can follow without words.
4. A few clean renders to showcase the table in different colours for marketing visuals.
Acceptance checks
• All interlocking parts must be self-supporting in the model—no interference, no gaps wider than required clearance.
• The collapsed parts must fit within a box no larger than 450 × 450 × 60 mm for shipping.
• Total material usage not to exceed one 900 × 600 mm laminate sheet.
