Sculptural J-Class Yacht-Inspired Table Design
Budget: $30 – $250 AUD
Project Title:
Design of Sculptural Table Inspired by Classic J Class Yachts
Project Overview:
I am seeking a set of precise design and construction drawings for a sculptural table inspired by the hull shape of the iconic J Class sailing yachts. The table will mimic the flowing lines and elegance of these classic vessels, and the design must reflect both aesthetic fidelity and practical buildability.
This design will serve as the basis for a real-world fabrication using traditional marine-style building methods with modern materials.
Core Table Dimensions:
Overall Length: 1800mm
Overall Height: 750mm
Overall Width: 850mm
Base Footprint: 750mm Long x 500mm Wide
Design Guidance:
The table form should reflect the curvature and balance of a J Class yacht hull, inverted or upright depending on the aesthetic logic (I’m open to interpretation). I have attached a reference image with arrows showing the preferred curvature.
The goal is to fabricate this by constructing the form using bending ply over frames, followed by fairing, filling, and sheathing in fiberglass for strength.
Deliverables Required:
Top View Plan
Bottom View Plan
Longitudinal Profile (side elevation)
Cross Sections at Intervals:
Every 200mm along the length
Every 100mm near the ends
Possibly 50mm spacing at the very tip if curves demand finer resolution
3D Renderings or Visualizations (optional but welcomed)
Layered or vector-ready drawings suitable for full-scale printing (PDF, DXF, or other formats as needed for CNC/template use)
Construction Notes:
Table will be skinned with two opposing layers of 3mm bending ply, applied diagonally or cross-grain for torsional strength.
Final shape will be faired using filler, and fiberglassed for rigidity and surface finish.
The base will require ballast (weight) to stabilize the table and prevent tipping.
Suggest practical internal framing ideas or lightweight core options if applicable.
No visible joinery – smooth, uninterrupted sculptural finish preferred.
Optional Enhancements:
I welcome design improvements or creative input around:
Internal structure to reduce weight while maintaining rigidity
Suggestions for mounting ballast subtly within the base
Hidden access panel ideas if necessary
Consideration for running electrical (e.g., hidden lighting) if desired in future
File Types Requested:
Vector files (DXF/DWG preferred) for template cutting
Printable PDFs of all plan views and frame cross sections
3D model file (STEP/IGES or Rhino preferred) if available
Optional renders in high-res JPG or PNG
Reference Images:
(Attach your referenced shape image with the arrows clearly showing the desired curves.)
Budget & Timeline:
Please quote based on delivering the above drawing set. I would like to have the initial set of plans ready within 7–10 days.
