Rustic Addition Elevation Concepts
Budget: $30 – $250 USD
I am remodeling a 12'-wide by 12'-deep section of my home and raising it approximately 30". Because of the height change, the existing roof needs to be re-worked so the new volume blends naturally with the house while keeping a warm, rustic character.
What I need from you are three distinct exterior elevation concepts that show how the raised portion ties into the current roof. I am fine if the new roofline departs a little from the original, so feel free to explore options—my only must-have is that each concept stays true to a rustic style.
Roof ideas I’m already considering include a shed roof, a dormer-like form with windows, or even a compact hip roof, and I’m open to your creative spin on any of those. In front of the addition there will be a 6'-deep by 12'-wide concrete porch; at least the first 4' of that porch must be covered. If it helps the overall composition, the porch cover can have its own roof structure.
Deliverables (PDF or high-resolution JPEG):
• Three front and side elevation sketches/renderings that clearly illustrate roof integration, massing, and porch cover.
• Brief notes under each image explaining roof pitch, material suggestions, and how rain shedding will work where the new roof meets the old.
I’ll use these concepts to choose a final direction before commissioning full construction drawings, so clarity and thoughtful detailing are important. Let me know if you need photos or measurements of the existing house, and I’ll send them right over.
