3D Printable Dragon Egg Puzzle
Budget: $30 – $250 AUD
I need a fully-printable 3D model of a fantasy dragon egg that opens through a simple, self-contained puzzle mechanism. Once printed at a medium size (somewhere between 10 cm and 20 cm tall) the egg should look seamless until the user discovers the straightforward sequence that unlocks the interior compartment.
The exterior must be covered in organic-looking scales; no engraved runes or perfectly smooth surfaces this time. Think classic dragon hide—overlapping, slightly irregular plates that really catch the light when painted. The puzzle action itself can be as modest as a two- or three-step twist-and-lift, magnets, or hidden pins, so long as it’s reliable and easy for beginners to assemble after printing.
Please design with standard FDM printers in mind: minimal supports, clear part orientation, and tolerances that suit PLA or PETG. Joints and mating faces need to be watertight in the STL so slicing is trouble-free.
Deliverables
• Clean, manifold STL files for all parts
• Exploded view or assembly PDF that shows how the simple mechanism works
• Brief print settings guide (layer height, infill, recommended tolerances)
• A short note on any hardware—springs, magnets, etc.—if you decide they’re useful
I’ll sign off once the files slice without errors in Cura or PrusaSlicer and a small test print confirms the pieces fit together smoothly.
